A wiki is a collaborative website on which content is created and edited by a group.

The group can be very small or can include anyone in the world who has access to the internet or can be any size in between.

On this site, we will explore:
  • What is a wiki?
  • Who is using them and how?
  • How do wikis work?
    • Including the very important questions of
      • If everyone can edit the content in a wiki, why doesn't it just turn into a jumbled mess?
      • How are edits tracked in a wiki?
      • If I set up a wiki, who can edit it?
      • If I set up a wiki, who can see it?
  • What resources are available for using wikis in the classroom?
  • What are some good examples of wikis in education?

Of course the most well-known wiki is Wikipedia which was created to store the "sum of human knowledge." Here is an interesting video in which Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, talks about why it was started and how it works.
