Creating enhanced podcasts on Windows operating system

Using Microsoft Movie Maker to create enhanced podcast --step by step instructions. Note: You will need to use a separate program to convert the file from a .wmv format to an mpeg-4

How to podcast-free online tutorial -- by, Jason Van Orden, author of Promoting Your Podcast. I haven't gone through the entire tutorial, but found the Audacity section to be very helpful.

Using an ordinary telephone and computer hosts can create free, live, call-in talk shows with unlimited participants that are automatically archived and made available as podcasts. No software download is required. Listeners can subscribe to shows via RSS into iTunes and other feed readers. Our network has produced tens of thousands of episodes since it launched in August of 2006.

Podomatic

PodOmatic offers free podcast creation, hosting and iTunes integration. Pretty simple to use. For the free accounts, they make their money by showing ads when people listen to your podcast.

In order for your podcast to be recognized by the feeder you need to enable enclosure links

Here's how. Copied from the Blogger help file

Once you've uploaded your files to your web host of choice, you'll need to enable enclosure links to link to the file from within a Blogger post. To do so, just go to your Settings | Formatting tab and set the "Show Link fields" option to "Yes." This will add the enclosure link fields to your post editor. When composing a post, you'll then see a field for your enclosures. From there, just enter the URLs of your audio files, and your blog will instantly become a podcast. When viewed with most RSS readers or podcatchers (such as Google Reader, iTunes, or Bloglines), your recordings will appear as embedded music players. It's that easy!

A wiki is a collaborative website on which content is created and edited by a group.

The group can be very small or can include anyone in the world who has access to the internet or can be any size in between.

On this site, we will explore:

What is a wiki?
Who is using them and how?
How do wikis work?
- Including the very important questions of
  - If everyone can edit the content in a wiki, why doesn't it just turn into a jumbled mess?
  - How are edits tracked in a wiki?
  - If I set up a wiki, who can edit it?
  - If I set up a wiki, who can see it?
What resources are available for using wikis in the classroom?
What are some good examples of wikis in education?

Of course the most well-known wiki is Wikipedia which was created to store the "sum of human knowledge." Here is an interesting video in which Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, talks about why it was started and how it works.

"How to use wikis for business" This Information Week article talks about how businesses are integrating wikis into their communication scheme. Among other things it contains a very good description of how a wiki differs from a blog, and the parameters in which wikis work best. The information is useful for thinking about wikis in education.

- Support features for educators include tips, education ambassador, share resource area
Wikispaces (Wikis with ads are free. Currently giving away 100,000 ad-free wikis for primary/secondary education. Otherwise, can purchase ad free wiki for $5-$20 per month)
PBWiki
- Will remove ads if you are using site in education
- Can also access educator white papers about using wikis in the classroom from home page
- Password is always required to edit a page. No anonymous edits.

Roles

Most wikis allow you to assign users different roles or levels of permission.

These levels are described in the Wetpaint help file as follows:

What is a role?

Roles indicate what a person can do on this site:
Administrators can: create and manage pages; view all reports; administer user permissions and contributions; adjust global settings.
Moderators can: move, rename, lock, and delete pages; move and delete comment threads; promote members to new roles; ban disruptive users.
